The FMS (Functional Movement Screening) is a pre-participation screening tool designed to identify compensatory movement patterns that are indicative of increased injury risk and/or inefficient movement that causes reduced performance. There are a number of tests which are used to assess the whole-body movement mechanics, allowing the practitioner to grade these from ineffective to effective. The tests carried out are as follows:
- Wall angles
- Deep squat
- Hurdle step
- Inline lunge
- Shoulder mobility
- Active straight-leg raise
- Trunk stability
- Rotational stability
